B is for Bibliobibuli

bibliobibuli - the sort of people who read too much
[bib--lee-oh-bib-you-lee]

I'm not sure there really is such a thing as people who read too much.  Too much of the wrong thing, maybe.  Sure.  But too much altogether?  Doubtful.

I'm not much for resolutions.  I'm more of a "give me rules and I'll break them" kind of girl.  But I think if I were to make a resolution in any direction, it would be this:

This year I resolve to cultivate myself into
and hone my skill as a bibliobibuli-type of girl.

There are alot of good books out there, y'all.  ALOT! (You know this, man!) My list of books to readslashown is extensive.  Longer than both of my arms.  End-to-end, in case you were confused and thought I meant side-by-side.

Because no, that's not what I meant.

I totally meant end-to-end.

Anyway, as I was saying,

Here are a few titles I'm hoping to soon enjoy:
Life of Pi
Water for Elephants
Thin Places
Born on a Blue Day
Peace Like A River
Parenting is Your Highest Calling and 8 Other Myths That Trap Us in Worry and Guilt
The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society
Notes From the Tilt-a-Whirl

If you'd like to help me achieve my goal (of reading, reading, reading whilst avoiding other menial tasks because how else does one become a bibliobibuli?) feel free to add to my list.  Don't hide your love away!

Also under the don't column, don't recommend that Francine Rivers book, Redeeming Love.  I read it.  I hated it.

Other than that though, proffer up!  (...and thanks!)

  1. I have a new favorite word.Fun to say, fun to be. I resolve to read some book. And resolutions, I'm more of a 'give it a try' kinda person.Except maybe when it comes to reading, then I'm more like Yoda. There is no try, only do or not do. Was that Yoda or the Karate Kid? Either way, in that case, I am a do-er.

  2. http://librivox.org/
I "read" Pilgrim's Progress while folding laundry.
Christianaudio.com had one free download each month as well.
If you actually want to flip through the pages of a real book, however, this suggestion can be tossed out the window. :)

  4. Well it pays to put it out there because I was loaned a copy of Life of Pi last night at a dinner celebration with friends. Resolution, off to a great start!

Anon: Hmmm, prolly so. I'll have to "think on it" for a spell.

Tracy: Thanks! I'll check those both out! I'm okay with audio books... it just seems they're even more difficult to get to for me. They sit in my iTunes or my iPod unheard, being of no use to anyone. But I'll give it a solid effort. :)

  5. it made me smile that you don't like
francine rivers, because i find her a
    little nauseating.

i did LOVE "peace like a river", "water
for elephants", and "life of pi," however.
can't wait to read the "potato" book,
as it has been recommended by so many
    folks.

i found a book for young children about
the saints. you might hold off on some
accounts until they are older, but the
st. nicholas one seems very sweet.
